Who we are

Uplink Stage is a browser-based live streaming studio: you create a studio, invite guests by link, arrange them on stage with your branding, and broadcast the show to YouTube, Twitch and other platforms, optionally recording it. It is operated by [Company name and address: TBD before launch], the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: privacy@uplinkstage.com.

What we collect and why

  • Account: email, display name, password hash (or your Google account id if you sign in with Google), plan and sign-in times. Needed to provide the service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Content you create: studios, show schedules, run of show, brand kit, scene pictures, clips, logos and music tracks you upload, recordings and chat in your studios (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Streaming channels: platform and server address. Stream keys are stored encrypted; only the last 4 characters are ever shown.
  • Guests: the name and optional title a guest types, and their camera and microphone while in a studio. Guests need no account. Live media is relayed, not stored, unless the host records the show. Camera backgrounds (blur or replace) are applied on the person's own device; the original camera image is not sent.
  • Other platforms you connect: for Kick, your Kick account id and username and an encrypted token, used to bring your channel's chat into the studio. Disconnecting deletes them.
  • Billing: if you buy a plan, Stripe processes the payment; we receive the plan, billing status and a Stripe customer id, never your card number.
  • Security: IP address and request metadata for rate limiting and abuse prevention, kept up to 30 days (Art. 6(1)(f), keeping the service secure).

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Sign in with Google

If you choose to sign in with Google, we request only the basic profile scopes (openid, email, profile). Google tells us your Google account id, your email address (only if Google has verified it) and your name. We use them only to create and sign you in to your Uplink Stage account and to show your name in the app. We do not receive your Google password.

Signing in does not give us access to your YouTube channel or any other Google data; that only happens if you separately connect YouTube (below).

YouTube (only if you connect your channel)

Uplink Stage uses YouTube API Services. By connecting your channel you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

  • What we access: your channel's id and name, and permission to manage YouTube live broadcasts on it (Google permission "youtube.force-ssl"). We do not read your existing videos, playlists, the comments on your videos or your subscribers.
  • What we do with it, only when you ask: create the YouTube lives for your show when you go live or schedule one (title, description, privacy, made-for-kids setting, thumbnail, and an optional second vertical live), end them when your show ends, update or remove scheduled lives we created for your shows, read the live chat of lives we created to show it in your studio's chat while the show runs, and read the live viewer count of lives we created, for your show analytics.
  • What we store: the channel id and name, when you connected, and Google's refresh token for your channel, encrypted (AES-256-GCM). Short-lived access tokens are kept in memory only. Viewer counts are kept with your show analytics.
  • Sharing: we do not sell, rent or share YouTube or other Google user data with anyone. It is only sent back to Google to carry out the actions above, and never used for advertising.
  • Removing access and deleting the data: Disconnect on the Channels page revokes our access at Google and deletes the stored token and channel details at once; deleting your account does the same. You can also revoke it any time in your Google account's third-party access settings; we then delete the token the next time we try to use it.

How we use Google user data (Limited Use)

Uplink Stage's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:

  • We use Google user data only to provide and improve the features described above that you can see in the app (signing in, and creating, running and ending your YouTube lives).
  • We do not transfer it to others, except as needed to provide those features, to comply with the law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with notice to you.
  • We do not use or transfer it for advertising, including retargeting, personalized or interest-based ads.
  • No person at Uplink Stage reads it, unless you ask us to (for example for support) and agree, it is needed for security (investigating abuse), or the law requires it.
  • We do not use it to develop, improve or train generalized artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
  • We do not sell it, and we do not use it to determine credit-worthiness or for lending.

Who processes data for us

  • DreamHost: hosting, database and storage (United States).
  • Cloudflare: delivers the website and protects it from attacks; it sees your IP address and the pages you request. If it shows a security check, it sets a cf_clearance cookie to remember that you passed.
  • Google: if you use Sign in with Google or connect a YouTube channel (see above).
  • Stripe: payments, if you buy a plan.
  • Your streaming platforms (YouTube, Twitch and others) receive the stream you send them, under their own terms.

Transfers outside the EEA rely on the processors' Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Account data: until you delete your account.
  • YouTube connection (token, channel id and name): until you disconnect YouTube, revoke our access at Google, or delete your account.
  • Recordings: for your plan's retention period (7 days on Free), then deleted automatically.
  • Uploaded media (pictures, clips, logos, music): until you delete it or your account.
  • Security logs: up to 30 days.

Your rights

You can download your data (Settings, Your data), correct it (Settings), delete your account and everything in it (Settings, Delete account), object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent for optional cookies at any time (Cookie settings in the footer). You can complain to your data protection authority. For anything else email privacy@uplinkstage.com; we answer within one month.

Security

Passwords are hashed (PBKDF2), stream keys and Google tokens are encrypted (AES-256-GCM), all traffic uses HTTPS, and your login session lives in a cookie that page scripts cannot read.

Children

Uplink Stage is not intended for children under 16.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data, we update this page and its date, and tell signed-up users about material changes before they take effect.
